QUETTA, July 11: The levies arrested a couple in Taftan on Friday and recovered two children whom they planned to smuggle to the United Arab Emirates via Iran for camel racing.

“The accused, Hamida Begum and Mohammad Mehmood, could be members of a gang involved in human smuggling,” Taftan Tehsildar Zahid Badani told Dawn over telephone.

According to sources the accused had arrived in Taftan with two children from Rahim Yar Khan.

The levies raided a hotel, arrested the couple and recovered the children.
