ISLAMABAD, July 10: Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) is taking steps to hold elections in keeping with the requirements of new national sports policy.
“PVF is the latest federation to bring itself in conformity with the provision of the sports policy i.e. that no official of a federation could hold more than two terms of four years each in a particular post”, according to sources in the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
Nearly 20 sports federations, almost two-third of the federations controlling a particular sport in the country, have so far either brought themselves in line with this provision or have pledged to follow suit in the near future.
PVF, the apex body of sport in the country in the country, will hold a general body meeting in Lahore on July 16 to make progress towards holding elections under the requirements of sports policy.
PSB had decided, in an executive committee meeting a couple of months back, to withhold annual grants of the federations which fail to fulfill the requirements of the new national sports policy.
Roughly 40 sports federations or organisations are currently affiliated with PSB. But nearly 10 of them, such as Alpine Club of Pakistan or Adventure Foundation of Pakistan, don’t directly control a particular sport.
Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has already challenged the provision regarding ban on more than two terms in the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench.—APP
