Lahore, Multan triumph

LAHORE, July 10: Lahore and Multan earned victories on the opening day of the first Punjab Inter-District Badminton Championship which started at the New Khan Hall on Thursday night.

In all, 20 districts of the province are taking part in the four-day event.

Each district is allowed to send teams comprising two men and as many women players.

The matches are being held on knock-out basis. The teams will play best of three matches.

The districts participating are:

Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Khanewal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Attock, Bahawalpur, Bahawalngar, Shakargarh, Faisalabad, Jhang, Rahimyar Khan, Sargodha, Chakwal, Muzaffargarh, Okara, Narowal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan.

First day results:

Multan beat Pakpattan 2-0: Faisal Amjad bt Hamayun Akhtar 15-0, 15-0; Iqbal Malik bt Shabbir Ahmad 15-2, 15-2.

Lahore beat Chakwal 2-0: Hashir Bashir bt Shoaib Zafar 15-4, 15-0; Tayyab bt Shahzad Amir 15-6, 15-0.
