By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 10: The Capital administration has ordered closure of 86 private educational institutions running in different residential areas of the Federal Capital.

The CDA deputy commissioner, Sajjad Bukhari has ordered the officials to seal these schools at the earliest. Out of these 86 schools, 11 have been sealed so far. There are 109 schools operating in residential areas creating problems for the residents.

The CDA officials said these schools were being run without fulfilling the legal requirements and taking permission from the authorities.

They said the municipal administration of the CDA had also issued warning notices to four more private institutions to close their business immediately.

It may be recalled that the CDA had launched the campaign against the illegal institutions on the directives of the interior ministry. The CDA had already sealed 10 schools in sectors F-8 and F-10.

Sources said the Authority had decided to take action against around 270 schools, running illegally in Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the CDA deputy commissioner has issued orders to take action against Kind Care Junior School, Star Model and Computer Institute, Institute of Microvision Education, Islamic Grammar School, Al-Khair University, private company office house, Saddlers High School, Career Public School, Little Scholar, Paradise School, Saudi Arabian School, Kharsam Education Centre, Iqra I-10/1, Islamabad Nursery I-10/1, OPF College Pre-nursery, Science Academy, AST Girls College, F-8/4, Bright Model School I/10/2, Pak-Turk School, Gim Club House, Textile College, Brain Academy, City Nursery School, Newport College National Study Centre, G-10/3, I-8.

121 SCHOOLS UPGRADED: As many as 121 primary and secondary schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) will be upgraded to model schools in the next two years under the mega project initiated by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) adds APP.

Talking to this agency on Thursday, the FDE director- general, Brig Maqsoodul Hassan (retired), said Rs314.04 million had been allocated under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in budget 2003-04 for about 20 projects of the FDE, including five new and 15 ongoing projects.

The fund for Degree College for Women at Humak had been approved by the Ministry of Education and classes would start in September, the DG said. The degree college for women at Bhara Kahu has also been included in our future planning, he added.

Responding to a question about the future setup in these model schools, Brig Hassan said: “We had a detailed discussion with teachers in which we assured them that they will be absorbed in the new system with due regard to their qualification, and the opportunities of promotion will be extended and enlarged in this new setup.”

We have given a period of two to three years to the teachers of these schools to improve their qualification and also offered them several other options in which their satisfaction was on the top priority, he added.

The DG said 2,100 teachers would be imparted training during these summer vacations in 89 training workshops and refresher courses to improve their teaching skills.

In collaboration with the IT Division, 15 more schools in the ICT will have computer labs soon, Brig Hassan said, adding that 15 schools were provided computer facilities last year.

About the problem of teachers’ shortage in ICT schools, he said verdict of the court about selection of 400 teachers was awaited.
