KARACHI, July 10: A meeting, held here at the Governor’s House on Thursday discussed measures to eliminate the brutal custom of karo kari (honour killing) from Sindh province.
Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad presided over the meeting, which was attended by chief minister’s advisor on home affairs, Aftab Shiekh, Chief Secretary, Dr Mutawakkal Kazi, Advocate General, Anwer Mansoor Khan, Home Secretary, Anwar Hyder, Law Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Shah, inspector general, police, Syed Kamal Shah, city police chief Asad Ashraf Malik, Additional Advocate General, Kazi Khalid Ali, and other officers concerned.
The meeting also discussed steps to be taken at the community level, besides legal and administrative measures, for elimination of karo kari.
After reviewing the report submitted by chief secretary and law secretary, the governor directed to take final measures in this regard.
Mr Ibad urged the officials to ensure fair prosecution and provision of legal aid to the families affected by Karo Kari. He directed the officials for monitoring on the district level and hiring seasoned lawyers for elimination of the brutal custom. —PPI
