KARACHI, July 10: A policeman died in the Joharabad police station on Thursday, in what the police described as an incident of accidental firing.
The police said that constable Mohammad Fareed, 25, was fixing the magazine of his rifle, when it went off, accidentally.
The bullet pierced through his head, and Fareed died on the spot.
His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination, the police added.
Police said that the deceased was posted at Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station, but was temporarily posted at the Joharabad police station in the wake of Quetta massacre.
The autopsy report was awaited till filing of this report.
SUICIDE: A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide in Liaquatabad on Thursday.
Police said that Lubna, 18, had consumed some poisonous substance in her house in Liaquatabad, after being scolded by her parents over some domestic dispute on Thursday morning.
The victim was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she died during treatment, hospital sources said.
However, victim’s family took away her body from the hospital without the postmortem examination, police added.
DIES: A six-year-old boy got drowned in the Lyari river in Pak Colony on Thursday.
Police said that Gul Bahadur was trying to retrieve a toy from the swollen river when he lost his balance and fell into the river.
Following the efforts by the local residents and rescue officials, victim’s body was recovered from the river.
Meanwhile, body of a middle aged man was recovered from the Lyari river in Liaquatabad on Thursday.
Police said that the body of an unidentified man, in his mid 50’s, apparently flowed down the stream, adding that the victim seemed to be a drug addict.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. Later it was shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification.
KILLED: An official of the Airport Security Force was shot dead by some unidentified persons, who dumped his body near Airport on late Wednesday night.
Police said that body of Imdad Khan, 40, was found near the Falaknaz Plaza, with two bullet wounds.
The police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination.
Imdad Khan was posted at the Karachi Airport two months back, the police said.
His body was flown back to his native town in Charshada on Thursday.
ACCIDENT: A rickshaw driver died in an accident near Lasbala bridge on late Wednesday night.
Police said that the unidentified rickshaw driver rammed his vehicle against a parked truck.
The driver died at the spot, his body was shifted by the police to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy.
ARRESTED: Police, on Thursday, arrested about a dozen suspects following an armed clash between two groups over a plot in Orangi Extension.
The police said that groups of Haji Dahshat Khan and Khurram Khan exchanged fire over a plot in sector 11-1/2, Mohajir Chowk.
As a result, Ayaz Khan, Sharafat Khan, Mussarat Khan, Kalat Khan and Sadaqat Khan, belonging to Dahshat Khan group, were injured while Khurram Khan, Suliman Khan, Haji Qadir and Janaat Gul were injured from the other side.
The Injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
The police arrested the injured from the both groups after they were discharged from the hospital.
ROBBED: Senior staffer of Dawn was deprived of Rs 22,000 and a mobile phone by two bandits in Saddar, on Thursday.
Mr Shamim-ur-Rehman, senior staff reporter, was on his way to the Karachi Press Club in the afternoon, when he was intercepted by two young men near Alpha Restaurant.
One of the suspects snatched Mr Shamim’s mobile phone, while the other one warned him to keep silent and took out his valet containing Rs 22,000.
Both the suspects escaped on foot following the robbery.
A first information report was lodged at the Artillery Maidan police station.
About a fortnight back, some unidentified people, riding in a yellow cab, had tried to abduct Mr Shamim near the Sidco Centre. The incident was brought to the knowledge of the police officials.
