India rules out cricket links soon

NEW DELHI, July 9: India on Wednesday ruled out resuming full cricket ties with Pakistan any time soon despite media speculation that the Indian national team would be allowed to tour the neighboring country for the first time in two years.

“We will resume sporting ties on a bilateral basis only when we find the time is right,” External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha was quoted as telling Press Trust of India during a visit to the news agency’s office. “Cricket will form part of the normalization process.”

India and Pakistan have recently taken a few tentative steps toward peace, including restoration of ambassador-level diplomatic relations and ground passenger transportation.
