FAISALABAD, July 9: The ASP and SHO of the Peoples Colony tore apart uniforms of each other in a physical fight here on Wednesday.
Differences cropped up between SHO Mehmood Sardar and ASP Shahzad Sultan over the issues of parking official vehicles in front of the police station’s main gate and the release of four alleged accused. Harsh arguments were exchanged before they indulged in the free-for-all fight, tearing apart each other’s uniforms. So afraid were the subordinate staff that they did not venture to separate their officers busy in physical duel. The scene was witnessed by a number of people and visitors.
The muharrar informed the Rescue 15 about the incident who hastened to the spot, got them separated and sent them to their respective rooms under the umbrella of armed police guards.
SP (City) Tauqeer Hayat rushed to the police station and reported the matter to the DPO who ordered relieving the SHO of the police station and directed him to report to the Police Lines. The DPO deputed the SP (City) as inquiry officer to probe into the incident.
The SP (City) reportedly called both the police officers and other policemen on duty to record their statements on Thursday.
Water supply: The Water And Sanitation Agency (Wasa) of Faisalabad has decided to install 12 tubewells along the bank of Jhang Branch Canal under the potable water supply project.
The project would be completed with the Rs3.5 billion aid of Japanese organization JICA, official sources told this correspondent on Tuesday.
Wasa engineers had proposed the bed of River Chenab in Chiniot for the installation of the tubewells for the water supply project. The residents and their elected representatives of Chiniot had launched a protest movement against the project, claiming that the subsoil water of the area would become brackish and its level would decline after the installation of tubewells on the bed of Chenab.
Protests by the Chiniot people forced the Wasa authorities to select some other site for the project to save the foreign aid.
Wasa engineers conducted surveys in different city areas and finally selected Jhang Branch Canal near Pul Dangero on Faisalabad-Jhang Road for the project.
“A JICA team is due here on July 23 to approve the site,” sources said, and claimed that 22 million gallons of potable water would be pumped out daily through these tubewells. “This would enable Wasa to supply potable water to almost all the city localities.”
Protest: Traders of Satiana Road observed strike on Wednesday to protest against police.
They also held a demonstration to protest against the arrest of shopkeepers Rizwan, Irfan, Shahzad and Shabbir.
They alleged that Batala Colony SHO demanded Rs500,000 for the release of the arrested shopkeepers who had been kept at some unknown place for the last three days without any justification.
They claimed that no case has so far been registered against the arrested shopkeepers.
