ABBOTTABAD, July 9: The district Nazim, Col (rtd) Mustafa Jadoon, has tabled Rs1096 million annual budget in the district council here on Wednesday.

An amount of Rs106m has been allocated to carry out development projects in the district.

In his budget speech, the Nazim spoke about the projects initiated and completed in the previous year. He said the district government had saved Rs30m in different sections.

The district council had received a meagre amount under export tax head from the provincial pool, he said. The total collection made by the provincial excise department had been handed over to the district government, but the exact receipts could not be ascertained.

He said during 2000-2001, district government had received Rs564m under the Khusahl Pakistan Programme, Rs550m in a separate package of Special Khushal Pakistan Programme, Rs103m for the education programme.

He said an amount of Rs189m were allocated to carry out development work in the district, however, only Rs129m could be utilized by the district government.

The district government, he said, had received Rs190m out of Rs297m of district local fund. Giving the reasons of limited collections, he said it was due to lack of technical know-how.

The Nazim said that sufficient funds are allocated for the preparation of feasibility study of Abbottabad by-pass road and special funds are allocated for the water supply schemes in Nathiagalli, Abbottabad and Thandiynai.

He said that Rs2.6m were spent on the clearance of roads affected by the unprecedented snow fall and rain for which not a single penny was provided by the provincial and federal government.
