MIRPURKHAS, July 9: Hundreds of telephone lines have been lying out of order ever since the rains lashed the city four days back.

Telephone subscribers are facing many hardships. Despite repeated complaints, no measures have been taken to restore the lines.

Several subscribers, including Mohammad Hashim, Akbar Khan, Barkat Qureshi, and Razzaq Memon, said that their telephones had gone out of order four days back when it first started raining.

They said they had made several complaints to the assistant engineer, telephone exchange, Mirpurkhas, but in vain.

They said that the officials of the PTCL, Mirpurkhas, were inefficient as they had failed to have the telephone lines restored.

They demanded that the chairman, PTCL, take immediate notice of the matter and have the telephone lines restored as soon as possible.

REDUCED: The chief engineer, Sukkur Barrage, has reduced the water supply by 5,500 cusecs at the head of the Nara Canal as he feared a flood-like situation in the canal.

The initiative was aimed at taking precautionary measures to avoid breaches developing in the canals and distributaries.

The coordination officer, Mirpurkhas, Dr Mohammad Siddique Memon, has directed the director, Nara Canal area water board, to ensure round the clock surveillance at the embankments of distributaries and canals.

The DPO, Mirpurkhas, has also directed SHOs to keep a strict watch on the embankments of distributaries and canals and deploy personnel at sensitive points to avoid breaches.
