KARACHI, July 9: The teachers must impart up to date knowledge to students using latest technology and teaching methodologies developed through modern research.
This was stated by the vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Prof Dr Zafar Saeed Saify, while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural session of a workshop on teaching methodologies.
The two-day moot began on Wednesday under the auspices of the Mass Communication Department, University of Karachi, in collaboration with the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).
The vice-chancellor urged the teachers to fulfil their responsibilities considering the fast changing world in the wake of modern technological advancements.
He said that the university for its part was planning to organize lectures of the world renowned scientists, researchers and intellectuals belonging to the disciplines of natural and social sciences.
Prof Saify stated that the Pakistani professors and research fellows would have opportunities to interact with them through teleconference.
The vice-chancellor appreciated the efforts of new chairman of the Mass Communication Department, Prof Dr Tahir Masood, in bringing about positive changes aimed at improving the standards of teaching and research works at the department.
He assured of all support and help to the department in enveadours to this end.
Speaking on the occasion, the Dean of Arts Faculty, Prof Dr Abu Zar Wajidi, said that human development in any sector had always been the basic task of authorities. He said that this workshop would certainly help the teachers in showing marked improvements in their performance.
He was of the view that the system of education at the campus could only be restructured, revamped and re-engineered through implementing modern teaching and instructional methodologies.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Dr Tahir Masood spoke of his plan to improve the quality of research and teaching at the department and explained the aims and objectives of the workshop.—APP
