KARACHI: Ibad for safety steps at beaches

KARACHI, July 7: Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has expressed dissatisfaction over the safety measures at the coastal recreational points and ordered to make them effective.

Presiding over a high level meeting at the Governor House, Dr Ibad directed the officials of provincial and city governments to utilize the available resources and further improve their liaison with the Pakistan Navy and other concerned organizations.

The meeting was attended by Advisor Home Aftab Shaikh, Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi, Home Secretary Anwar Hyder, IG Police Syed Kamal Shah, Additional Advocate General Kazi Khalid Ali, DCO Karachi, DIG Operations and other high officials.

The governor directed the city government to ensure the presence of divers and watch and ward staff at these places. He called for training of divers and making the watch towers along the coast functional.

He said that if the steps being taken at government level were not proving effective, the cooperation of private sector as well as navy and other organizations should be obtained.

The governor warned that people going for recreation could not be left drowning in the sea and arrangements for their safety would have to be made effective.

He asked the city government to arrange mobile vehicles equipped with divers and life saving equipment. He said the mobile vehicles should keep patrolling along the coastal areas. He emphasised the need for patrolling by naval boats.

It was decided that government staff would keep patrolling along the coast for making the people aware about their safety and pursue them to remain away from dangerous spots.

The meeting also reviewed the law and order in the province. The governor directed that agencies should work without any pressure and discrimination for maintenance of law and order and elimination of crimes. He said that terrorists and saboteurs should be brought to the book.—APP
