11 killed as rains lash Sindh
Dawn Report
SUKKUR, July 6: At least 11 people, including three women, were killed in rain-related incidents in Sindh on Monday.
Six people were killed in the Shikarpur district, two in the Sanghar district, two in the Dadu district and another in the Jacobabad district. The deaths were caused by roof collapse and electrocution.
The rain broke the heat spell but also led to a breakdown of power supply in a number of cities including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Khairpur. However, people of the water-starved Sindh, especially the farmers, heaved a sigh of relief when almost the entire province received rain from Karachi to Jacobabad.
The farmers of lower Sindh said that the rain would have a positive effect on crops like cotton, chilli, sugarcane and banana while those of upper Sindh were happy that the rain would enhance availability of water needed to transplant paddy saplings.
The districts which received the rain included Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Badin, Dadu, Nawabshah and Larkana.
