KCCA names teams for Nepal ties

KARACHI, July 6: Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) announced on Sunday squads for the two practice matches against the visiting Nepal youth team.

Fazal Mohammad Khan will lead Karachi U-19 Whites in the opening one-day game at Quaid-i-Azam Park in Steel Town on Monday while wicket-keeper Naeem Ahmed Khan is slated to captain Karachi U-19 Blues in the other practice tie at PCB Regional Academy Ground on Friday (July 11).

Nepal are preparing for the Asian Youth Cup, which begins from July 14, a qualifying tournament for next year’s Youth World Cup in Bangladesh.

Following are Karachi squads:

Karachi U-19 Whites: Fazal Mohammad Khan (captain), Rameez Raja, Mohammad Fahim, Khurram Manzoor, Nasir Aziz, Naveed Khan, Owais Rehmani (wicket-keeper), Ahmed Iqbal, Faraz Ahmed Jr, Mohammad Ali Zafar, Adeel Malik, Waqas Haroon, Zeeshan Jamil, Naseer Khan and Mohsin Akhtar. Officials: Tauseef Siddiqui and Aftab Ahmed.

Karachi U-19 Blues: Naeem Ahmed Khan (captain, wicket-keeper), Faraz Patel, Khurram Ibrahim, Talib Ali, Mansoor Ali, Tariq Murad, Faraz Ahmed Sr, Sharif Asadullah, Asif Hameed, Raheel Waris, Sajjad Mirza, Tabish Khan, Ousaf Rabbani, Ibrahim Akhtar and Tabish-ur-Rehman. Officials: Musheer Rabbani and Jamil Ahmed.

Meanwhile, a 17-member Nepal squad, led by slow left-armer Shakti Gauchan, arrived in the city earlier in the day.

The squad includes eight players who figured in that famous victory over Pakistan in the Youth World Cup in New Zealand last year.

Former Sri Lanka Test batsman Roy Dias is Nepal’s coach but he is expected to arrive on Saturday.

Nepal squad: Shakti Gauchan (captain), Manjul Shrestha (vice-captain), Manoj Kotwal (wicket-keeper), Yaswant Subedi, Lakpa Lama, Parash Khadka, Raja Shrestha, Sharad Veswakar, Kaniska Chaugain, Ratan Raweyar, Prem Chaudhry, Deepesh Khatri, Pramod Basket and Irfan Shidique.

Officials: Shriharsa Koirala (manager), Kiran Rana (assistant manager), Roy Dias (coach) and Deepender Singh (assistant coach).
