Mianwali upset Lahore

LAHORE, July 6: Fine batting by Aamir Hayat and Asad Raja, who shared a sixth wicket stand of 116, helped lowly Mianwali stun Lahore by 37 runs in the PCB-Imran-Pepsi inter-regional cricket tournament at LCCA Ground on Sunday.

Lahore, winners of two previous games, scored only 153 for eight in the allotted 40 overs while chasing a target of 190.

To make Saturdays final, Lahore now must beat Rawalpindi on Monday and also improve their net run-rate also.

Aamir slammed five fours and three sixes to score a 90-ball 85. Together with Asad (40 with one four) lifted the innings from 50 for five to 166 before the latter was stumped.

Pacer Syed Umair had rattled the top order Mianwali batting with figures of four for 14. Leg-spinner Ahmad Butt chipped in with two for 45.

Except for Ahmed Butt (32 with four fours) and Mohsin Abbas (34 not out with one six and a four) no other Lahore batsman managed to stay for long.

For Mianwali, Asad picked up two for 25 while Wasim Abbas took two for 29.

Rawalpindi, meanwhile, maintained their winning run, defeating Faisalabad by three wickets at Gaddafi Stadium.

Set to score 100 for victory, Rawalpindi won inside 28 overs.

Batting first, Faisalabad were bundled out for 99  in  38.1 overs with Ali Khan top scoring with 41. Qasim Khan captured three for 15 while fellow fast bowler Tanvir Afzal returned fine figures of two for nine.

On Saturday, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad emerged victories.

Mianwali beat Lahore by 37 runs.

MIANWALI 190 in 39.5 overs (Aamir Hayat 85, Asad Raja 40; Syed Umair 4-14, Ahmed Butt 2-45);

LAHORE 153-8 in 40 overs (Mohsin Abbas 34, Ahmed Butt 32; Asad Raja 2-25, Wasim Abbas 2-29).

Rawalpindi beat Faisalabad by three wickets.

FAISALABAD 99 in 38.1 overs (Ali Khan 41; Qasim Khan  3-15, Tanvir Afzal 2-9);

RAWALPINDI 102-7 in 27.3 overs (Fawwad Hussain 21, Samiullah 20; Ali Raza 2-17, Nayyar Abbas 2-21, Waqas Nazar 2-36).

Rawalpindi beat Peshawar by six wickets.

PESHAWAR 123 in 39.4 overs (Tariq Afridi 20, Najeebullah 20; Qasim Khan 3-23, Yasin Murtaza 2-19, Samiullah 2-33));

RAWALPINDI 124-4 in 28 overs (Ali Sarfraz 52 not out, Asif Mumtaz 20; Farman Israr 2-14).

Faisalabad beat Mianwali by seven wickets.

MIANWALI 109 in 35.2 overs (Wasim Abbas 23; Naved Haider  3-16, Nayyar Abbas 3-23, Shahbaz Javed 2-9);

FAISALABAD 110-3 in 27 overs (Abdul Rauf 66 not out).
