LAHORE, July 6: A passerby was killed in Shahdara Town on Sunday when a team of police investigation wing opened fire to arrest a wanted man.

Led by SI Muhammad Younus, the team raided the house of Sharafat Ali to arrest him in an attempted murder case.

Sharafat showed the police officials his bail order he had secured from a court. The policemen, however, did not listen to him and asked him to accompany them.

On resistance, the policemen allegedly opened fire. Sharafat escaped unhurt as bullets hit a passerby, Muhammad Riaz, 22. He suffered serious injuries and died on way to a hospital.

City division police SP Rao Abdul Karim said a murder case had been registered against the six policemen and three of them had been taken into custody. He said further investigation was under way and a departmental action would also be taken against the accused policemen. — Reporter
