MITHI, July 6: A Kolhi family has appealed to the authorities to take action against four policemen who illegally detained, tortured and criminally assaulted a boy.
While narrating his ordeal, bed-ridden Neelo, 15, told journalists in the Civil Hospital here on Friday that police head constables Bhar Khan, Ramzan Gaho and constables Ashraf Ali and Ali Hassan entered his house a few days back and harassed all the residents, including the womenfolk.
He said that they tied his hands and legs, beat him up and took him to the Nagarparkar police station where they detained him illegally, harassed, and tortured him.
He added that they later took him to the guest room of Khan where he and Hassan removed his clothes, burned him with cigarettes and criminally assaulted him for two nights.
Neelo’s uncle, Bhuro, said that they complained about the incident to the Naib Nazim, Nagarparkar Tehsil, Parumal, who got Neelo released from the police lock up. They said that they had to pay Rs5,000 bribe for his release.
Bhuro said that the police had registered a fake case of camel theft against them.
Later, the Kolhis approached the director, Human Rights, Tharparkar, who had Neelo admitted to the Civil Hospital Mithi for a medical check up.
The hospital sources revealed to this correspondent that marks of abrasion, wounds and burns were visible on Neelo’s body, who seemed to be extremely depressed.
The Kolhis appealed to the governor and the IGP to provide them justice, besides taking stern action against the policemen concerned.
