PESHAWAR, July 6: Water and Power Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has said that the Munda dam project, involving a huge investment, would boost  the economy and prosperity of the NWFP.

According to a handout, speaking at a public meeting at Matta  Mughalkhel, he said completion of the project would help in the economic development of the province.

The project would be completed with the help of foreign technicians and it would provide jobs to the people of the area, he said.

He said the dam would generate 600 megawatts of electricity and improve irrigation. Irrigation canals and flood protection infrastructure would be improved, he said.

He said the federal government would spend Rs60 million to improve the irrigation system in the district.

Mr Sherpao said the provincial government had not distributed financial resources evenly among the districts in the provincial budget which would hamper development in the social sector and infrastructure.

He said the move against the National Assembly deputy speaker and the behaviour of the opposition would promote negative trends. He said the Legal Framework Order was a non-issue and urged the opposition to try to solve the real issues.

He also inaugurated a high voltage transformer at Balolkhel.
