Speedy Don’t Panic fancied to make it two-in-a-row
By Ian Fyfe
KARACHI, July 5: Don’t Panic, a thoroughbred filly from Strides By Strides out of Kafioca, is our day’s best, when the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way on Sunday.
Owned by Shah Mardan Shah II, Pir Pagaro VII, the filly has already one win under her belt two weeks ago, when she overwhelmed nearest rival Bull Dancer by 7 1/2 lengths while cantering home to victory over the five furlong journey with jockey Sher Mohammad in the saddle.
Although promoted up a Division, Don’t Panic has to class to smother the rest of the field in the sixth event going over the same distance, with Sardar and Prince Of Arabia following in her wake.
All in all eight events have been drawn up on the racing card, all going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.
The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.
Another runner that should not perish on Sunday afternoon is the half bred chestnut colt Strike The Gold in the concluding event.
A half brother of Don’t Panic, Strike The Gold after two fluent victories was surprised in his last outing by Chachu’s Dream (Late Shama), a thoroughbred bay filly from Silver Lining out of Hello Venza by three lengths, with a 14 pound advantage.
But that is another story buried in the past. The two runners are matching strides
once again on Sunday, but the difference now is only three pounds in favour of Chachu’s Dream carrying nine stones and four pounds on her back to Strike The Gold’s heavy penalty of 9-7.
Although branded as a half bred, Strike The Gold has the speed and poise of a thoroughbred champion and if all goes well, the chestnut colt should win this race hands down from Roberto Carlos Fan and Satellite Star, with Chachu’s Dream completing the frame.
In the opener, with 10 runners vying for the spoils, the bay mare Raysham has the speed to win this five furlong sprint from Royal Promise and Shining Rock, with Major Dandy and Super Boy joining the fray.
Tom Cruise should steal the show from Bye Bye and Win Today, in the second event.
Sajan Black looks a good thing in the next event should indeed provide trainer Taj Mohammad with another feather in his cap. Dauntless and Mark should battle it out for the second spot.
After finally passing the winning post last week, the chestnut Sovero should provide another triumph for owner Irfan Mehdi, chased all the way home by Power Plus and speedster Maha Sagar, in the fourth race.
Deniro beaten last week by half a length by Canon Again, should make amends over coming Champion Lady and the game Bull Dancer in the following event.
The sixth race has 14 runners in contention all maidens at the time of starting. Anyhow this column favours the bay Raaz, second behind stable companion Shab Alam to win this race from top weight Recondition and Field Prince. Following is the field and our selections:
