MIRPURKHAS, July 5: The leave of police personnel in Sindh have been cancelled in the wake of sectarian terrorism in Quetta, sources told Dawn on Friday.

The sources said the adviser to Sindh chief minister on home affairs, Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, also directed provincial police chief, Kamal Shah, that police should be deployed in sensitive areas, including mosques and imambargahs to avert any untoward incident in the province.

Meanwhile, the adviser directed police to register FIRs without any discrimination. Mr Shaikh while speaking at a news conference at the circuit house expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation. He said action was being taken against police on the complaints of people and that the black sheep of the police would not be tolerated.

He paid tributes to honest policemen and said many a notorious dacoits, carrying head money of Rs20 to 30 lakh, had been killed by them. He said police officials laid down their lives.

He said the crime rate seemed to be on decline and people were also feeling secure. He claimed there had been hectic activities in markets, bazars and hotels across Sindh.

Mr Shaikh said the ban on recruitments would be lifted on July 15. He said action against gutka, supari, mainpuri sellers and manufacturers was going in Sindh districts.
