Lahore maintain winning streak

LAHORE, July 4: Mianwali registered its first win while Lahore maintained its winning streak as two more matches were decided in the PCB-Pepsi-Imran inter-regional cricket tournament at two different grounds on Friday.

Mianwali beat Peshawar by 75 runs at Gaddafi Stadium.

Mianwali who earlier lost to Rawalpindi by 47 runs, in the opening match piled up 209 for eight in the  allotted 40  overs.

The middle-order batsman Wasim Abbas was the driving force behind the total.

He scored 63 off 65 balls with three fours and two sixes. Aamer Hayat (35, one six and one four) and Jalal Khan (28 not out) were the two other chief scorers.

Pacer Iran Gull took two for 39 to finish as only main wicket taker.

In reply, Peshawar could collect 134 before all out in 33 overs to concede second consecutive defeat. Peshawer lost to Lahore in the first match.

Fine batting by opener Ahmed Butt and Umar Akmal who  shared the second wicket stand of 63 guided Lahore to crush Faisalabad by seven wickets at the LCCA Ground.

Ahmad scored 53 (six fours, 72 balls) and Umar Akmal (46,  one four)  as Lahore crossed the winning target of 160 in 36.4 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Summarised scores:

Mianwali beat Peshawar by 75 runs.

MIANWALI: 209 for 8 in 40 overs (Wasim Abbas 63, Aamer Hayat  35, Jalal Khan 28, Ata-ur-Rehman 16, Asad Raza 15; Iran Gull 2-39).

PESHAWAR: 134 all out in 33 overs (Najeebullah 50, Asif Ali  19, Farman Israr 19, Tariq Afridi 13; Bilal Ahmed 2-10, Asad Raza  2- 19, Ibrar Ahmed 2-18).

Lahore beat Faisalabad by seven wickets.

FAISALABAD:  159 all out in 39.5 overs (Naveed Haider  47,  Zaman Jamil 45, Nayyer Abbas 21 not out, Adnan Younas 15; Muhammad Asif 3-28, Usman Malik 2-35, Kamil Majeed 2-16).

LAHORE: 160 for three in 36.4 overs (Ahmed Butt 53, Umar Akmal 46, Hafiz Asim Zakir 18, Mehroz Khan 18 not out).
