BRISBANE, July 4: Habibul Bashar missed a century by just one run as Bangladesh fought back strongly on Friday to set up an intriguing finish to their three-day tour match with the Australian Cricket Academy.
Bashar was bowled by medium pacer Mark Cleary for 99 after sharing a 146 run partnership with Javed Omar (59) for the second wicket.
Their departures triggered a minor collapse before Bangladesh declared their first innings at 232 for seven, just 26 runs behind the Academy’s first day total of 258-3.
Batting a second time, the Academy crashed to 99-4 by stumps on the second day, leading by 125 runs with six second innings wickets in hand and everything to play for on the final day.
Bashar and Omar got the struggling tourists off to a flying start when they batted through the entire first session.
Omar went after lunch for 59 and was quickly followed by Bashar, who had batted for 188 minutes and faced 146 balls before falling one short of his hundred.
Sanwar Hossain propped the tail up with 26 before the declaration set the scene for a tight finish.
