LANDI KOTAL, July 4: One of the residents of the Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency on Friday accused the political authorities of detaining his son illegally and called for institution of an impartial inquiry in this regard.

In a statement issued here, Sheenak Afridi accused the political tehsildar of Bara for keeping his son Said Jamal in illegal confinement on the insistence of his opponents. He said that they were already involved in a land dispute with him.

The Bara administration, he said, had taken Said Jamal for over a month now, adding that appeals for his release had failed to move the authorities so far.

Accusing the authorities of pressurising him to hand over a piece of land to his rival Shamshad Khan instead of resolving the land dispute through convening of a jirga in this regard. Shamshad Khan, he said, worked as a driver for a senior police official.

Mr Afridi urged the NWFP authorities to initiate an inquiry besides taking action against the tehsildar of the Bara political administration.

Meanwhile, an official of the tehsildar office clarified that Sheenak Afridi’s son had been taken into custody after he failed to attend the tehsildar’s office despite repeated summons for a raproachment with his rival.
