HYDERABAD, July 4: Tribute was paid to the renowned writer the late Mirza Qaleech Baig for his services in the cause of Sindhi language and literature at his 74th death anniversary organized by the Qaleech Sangat at the Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium, Sindh Museum, here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh minister for culture and tourism Shabbir Qaimi said that Mr Baig was one of the greatest writers of Sindh but he was not given due recognition at officials level.

He deplored that no road or institution had been named after Mr Baig and added that he would see to it that the open-air theatre in Hyderabad or some other important place was named after him.

Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo said that Mr Baig was a great scholar but he was not given his due place in the textbooks.

Shahmsuddin Ursani said that Mr Baig was the Adam of modern Sindhi literature and he had served the cause of Sindhi language all his life.

The grand son of Mr Baig, Mirza Aijaz Ali Baig, said that the late writer had written 457 books in eight languages.

Others who spoke at the programme included Ghulam Nabi Mughal, Professor Qavi Ahmed, Dr Tehmina Mufti, Dr Habibullah Siddiqui, Nisar Husaini and Zeb Nizamani.

SHAIKH SINDHI: In connection with the 114th birth anniversary of prominent freedom fighter and journalist Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi, the Dr Khan Mohammad Panhwar Trust is organizing a Shaikh Abdul Majeed Sindhi Memorial seminar here at the Dealdas Club on Monday.
