Sui gas workers threaten self-immolation

ISLAMABAD, July 3: The reinstated employees of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited has decided to start protest demonstrations, as the management of the company has refused to take them back despite clear cut orders by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on May 2, 2003 had ordered reinstatement of 775 employees of and referred the cases of 211 others to the Federal Service Tribunal for deciding their case afresh.

The reinstated employees who have named their body as “Forcible terminated low staff Alliance, SSGC Ltd.”

At a meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday, they said a special bench of five judges headed by Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, had ordered their reinstatement on May 2, but the management was not willing to accept them back.

They said they would hold protest demonstration outside Hyderabad Press Club on July 10, Karachi Press Club on July 15, Quetta Press Club on July 20 and before parliament house on July 26.

They said even then if they were not taken back they would start immolating themselves before the Prime Minister House from August 14.
