PESHAWAR, July 3: A two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court on Thursday ruled that the people of the Malakand Agency were entitled to a waiver of mark-up on the Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan loans acquired before the area was declared calamity-hit by the provincial government last year.
The bench, comprising Justice Shehzad Akber Khan and Justice Ijazul Hassan, accepted a writ petition submitted by Haji Sultan Ahmad and seven others and declared the arrest warrants issued against them illegal. The bank had claimed that it had set June 30 as the deadline for the borrower to deposit the principal amount to avail the relief package.—Bureau
