HYDERABAD, July 2: The provincial president, Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan, and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leader, Dr Sahibzada Abdul Khair Mohammad Zubair, MNA, has expressed grave concern over the disqualification of an MMA member of the legislative assembly, Mufti Ibrar Sultan, and warned that this would lead to anarchy in the country.
He accused the government of putting pressure on the judiciary in this regard.
He said Pakistan was facing internal and external threats and other crisis; therefore, the government should avoid taking such steps, which might create a division among the people.
He claimed that many leaders of the PML-Q, including ministers and chief ministers, had reached the corridors of power by producing certificates of religious schools.
He claimed that the University Grants Commission had issued a notification clearly stating that the “Sanad” of religious schools would be treated as equivalent to university degrees. He wondered why the issue was being raised now.
He feared that an agreement was signed at Camp David “to eliminate the Islamic forces in Pakistan”.
HCCI: The president, Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Razzaq Memon, has strongly reacted to the Punjab government’s decision to place ban on the inter-provincial movement of wheat.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, he has urged the Sindh government to ban the movement of wheat flour into Sindh as flour mills and chakkies of Sindh will be closed if the entry of wheat flour from Punjab was allowed.
He said that the people of Sindh would have to pay more for the flour.
He appealed to the Punjab government to remove the ban on the inter-provincial movement of wheat to end a sense of deprivation among the other provinces.
CONTRACT: A government contractor, Fareeduddin Ghurayani, has accused the TMO, Kotri, of corruption in the award of Kutcha Piri slaughter fee collection contract.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, he said he had participated in the auction which was held at the municipal building of Kotri on June 25.
He said two other contractors, Zeeshan Ali and Syed Shahzaman, had also competed in the bid.
He said the auction was held in presence of councillors and journalists and the official bid was announced at Rs328,723.
Mr Fareeduddin said the highest bid of Rs340,000 was given by him and it was finalized in his favour.
He said all the people present on the occasion congratulated him.
He alleged that the TMO called him at his office and told that another party also wanted to take part in the bid which had offered him a Rs25,000 bribe.
He alleged that the TMO asked him to pay Rs30,000 to retain the contract, otherwise he would cancel the auction.
He claimed that he refused to pay Rs30,000 as a result of which the auction was cancelled and the contract was awarded to another party on June 27.
