KARACHI, July 2: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Wednesday instructed the Sindh government to streamline the distribution of canal irrigation water by ensuring stricter vigilance and better management.

He issued these instructions to the Sindh irrigation department on the complaint of MNAs from Sindh who met him here.

He assured the MNAs that theft of canal water and its wastage will be controlled to ensure proper supply of water to the farmers of Sindh.

The prime minister deplored that Sindh’s canal system which was the best in Asia had deteriorated because of negligence in the past.

He said agriculture is the backbone of the country and canal water is a prime necessity to nourish agriculture.

He directed the concerned officials to strictly monitor the discharge of water in the canals regularly and ensure its supply to tail-end farmers as well.

He asked the officers to be in the field rather than sitting in the offices to provide relief to the common man and ensure the writ of the government.

The delegation from interior Sindh was headed by Salim Jan Mazari. Present on the occasion were Dr. Ghulam Haider Samejo, Arbab Zakaullah, Mohammad Ali Malkani, Mohammad Khan Junejo (MNA), Syed Javed Ali Shah (MNA) and others.—APP
