Impersonator arrested in Lok Sabha

NEW DELHI, July 2: A man posed as a journalist to evade security and enter Indian parliament but was later caught by the police when he tried to obtain a card that would have granted him access for weeks.

Saiyed Nusrat Ali got past security guards with a forged press card showing him to be a journalist with the Indian Express daily, police said Wednesday.

Police officials processing his application for a card to attend an entire Parliament session found that the signature of the editor of Indian Express in his press card was forged.

Ali was later arrested from his home in New Delhi.

The incident raised security concerns in the wake of the deaths of 15 people in a Dec 2001 attack on parliament. —AFP
