Players and manager escape censure
KARACHI, June 30: Players of Bhutta Mohammadan and the organizing secretary of the KASB Premier League involved in disciplinary cases escaped the punishments when organizers imposed mild penalties on them.
The organizers only warned Bhutta Mohammadan players for their misconduct during a match against Aga Khan Gymkhana on June 22, while suspended their manager Nazeer Khan for a match.
Nazeer is also the organizing secretary and the chairman of Bhutta Mohammadan. Organizers’ action came as a surprize considering Nazeer and players’ involvement in indiscipline including attack on the referee.
Bhutta Mohammadan players, especially Shahid and Mahmood Ghazi, and a number of their fans were involved in assaulting, threatening and abusing referee Yousuf Habib during the game and break.
Nazeer, instead of controlling the players, got involved in the ugly incident and supported his side by abusing the referee and officials.
According to FIFA rules, Bhutta Mohammadan and Nazeer should have been disqualified from playing in the league.
Karachi United goalkeeper Bilal Mehdi has also been suspended for a match after a brawl with Nawab XI players on June 26.
According to the press release of the organizers the decisions were taken by the technical committee headed by Ali Nawaz Baloch, vice-president of the Pakistan Football Federation.
However, another controversy came to the fore when Ali Nawaz claimed that he had nothing to do with the decisions which had been taken without his consent.
“I have nothing to do with the league or its technical committee. I have not been intimated by the organizers that I have been appointed head of the technical committee,” Ali Nawaz said.
It is the first time that Ali Nawaz spoke on the issue and never raised objection before on his name being included in the technical committee. He even came to see the opening game between Karachi United and Pakistan Petroleum at DHA Stadium.
Organizers, however, stuck to their stand that all the disciplinary cases were decided in consultation with Ali Nawaz.
