POA to meet on July 23

LAHORE, June 30: The issue of stoppage of annual grants by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to the national sports federations, has been included in the agenda of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) general council meeting to be held here on July 23.

The POA secretary, Mohammad Latif Butt, said here the other day that a decision to this effect would be taken after hearing the point of view of the all the federations in that meeting.

PSB had stopped the grants of 15 national sports federations this year for not implementing the national sports policy adopted by the federal government. POA had rejected the policy on the ground that it has clashes with the International Olympic Committee charter.

The POA secretary said that the general council would also decide whether to allot the national games to the Balochistan Olympic Association or not.

The games were scheduled for 2002, but as the BOA had failed to satisfy the POA regarding the required sports infrastructure available in the province for the games the decision to hand over the flag of the games to that province had been delayed.
