Opposition vows to raise issue in PA

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, June 30: Condemning the deportation of the Sharif family women, the PML-N, PPP and the MMA pledged on Monday that they would raise the issue in the Punjab Assembly session.

Convening a meeting here, the leaders of the three parties prepared adjournment and privilege motions to be discussed in the next session.

However, the decision to requisition a session was deferred, as the opposition will have to take part in the proceedings against its pledge to stay away from the assembly.

PML-N leaders Rana Sanaullah Khan and Sheikh Amjad Aziz, PPP’s Qasim Zia and Samiullah Khan and MMA’s Ehsanullah Waqas participated in the meeting in which the situation arising out of the government’s move to deport the wife and two daughters of the former Punjab chief minister was discussed.

Rana Sanaullah said while talking to reporters that the government was going too far in victimizing its political opponents. He added that the rulers regarded the Sharif family women as a threat to their rule and they wanted to deport them in violation of all laws. “We’ll continue our protest in the house and outside it,” he pledged.

PPP leader Qasim Zia said there was no justification for deporting the women. The government should talk to the male members of the family, if it wanted to settle any score, he said.

Mr Zia said the opposition parties were struggling for the supremacy of the democratic institutions and any damage to these would amount to damaging the country.

MMA’s Ehsanullah Waqas said the government’s action against its opponents was unheard of even during in the Raj.

Meanwhile, the PML-N is set to hold protest meetings all over the Punjab on Tuesday. A big meeting is scheduled to be held near the Muslim Masjid, Lohari Gate.

However, MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq told newsmen that the government had disallowed the party to hold the meeting. He added that no reason had been given for the decision.
