Honest Bird clinches fifth successive victory
LAHORE, June 29: Four-year-old brown colt, Honest Bird, defied handicap to triumph in the sixth race as the best performer during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The colt owned by Syed Iftikhar Ali beat Imagine Iff by four lengths to complete his win tally to five in-a-row during the on- going lahore racing season.
The afternoon victory makes Honest Bird as the most consistent and successful runner among four-year-olds.
A race earlier King Of Bhakkar ran courageously in the fifth race to register his second successive win. He beat Hunza by four lengths.
Later the bay mare Hataf Sara made a forceful move in the last 100 metres to win creditably the supporting and seventh race and complete a hat-trick of victories. She had already won two races consecutively. Hataf Sara defeated Better Case by about two lengths with Ponchi and Where Or When completing the frame among seven runners.
The feature and the last event turned out as the most exciting race with fancied Rukhtas Again and Dare To Dream striding out to finish in a dead-heat for the first position. So close was the finish that even the magic eye of the camera failed to separate the two. Storm Bird and Moment To Moment completed the board among eight runners.
Punters had a very successful afternoon when fancied horses made a clean sweep of the eight-event card. The first five races were held over 1000 metres while the remaining three were contested over 1200 metres.
Riding boy A. Aziz stole the limelights of the day’s racing when he sailed in three winners, namely, Little Master, Roman Charger and Honest Bird in the third, fourth and sixth race, respectively.
