Weapons cache found in Bangladesh

By Nurul Kabir

DHAKA, June 29: Police last night seized 62,099 rounds of bullets and 114 kilograms of explosives from a truck loaded with pineapple from a remote village of Kahalu Upazilla some 200 kms from capital Dhaka.

Five people, including wife of a local leader of Awami League, were arrested on charges of involvement with transportation of the illegal consignment of ammunition and explosives. The driver of the truck and his helper fled the scene.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury alleged in the Parliament that the Awami League, which is staying outside the budget session of parliament for the last two days, was “directly involved” in the illegal arms transportation. The AL, however, denied the allegation.
