10 killed as van falls into ravine

PESHAWAR, June 28: Ten people were killed and 13 others injured when a passenger van fell into a deep ravine at Dand area in Mohmand Agency on Saturday.

Witnesses told Dawn that the Peshawar-bound van (Peshawar-E 2983), coming from Loi Sam area in Bajaur Agency, went out of control owing to overspeeding and fell into the ravine.

Driver Mujahid Khan, Shah-i-Room, wife of Abdul Malik, and her three children were killed, while 18 passengers suffered injuries. Residents of Dand rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.

Shah-i-Room and her unidentified children were taken to the Civil Hospital in Shabqadar Fort where doctors pronounced them dead. The injured were brought to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar where five were succumbed to wounds. Only one of them could be identified as Ms Husna.
