GUJRAT, June 27: Haji Muhammad Shafi, a naib Nazim of Chak Kamala union council of PML-Q, was elected acting Nazim of Gujrat tehsil council for 30 days amid protest by the opposition here on Friday.

Following the death of the tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar Bhooch, the higher authorities directed the tehsil council to make arrangements for the election of the Nazim within 30 days and for the election of acting tehsil Nazim who would hold charge of the office for a month.

It is learnt that the PPP, the opposition party, had decided to name Karrianwala union council naib Nazim Muhammad Saleem as their candidate for the slot but they walked out of the session when tehsil naib Nazim Mian Haroon Masood refused to elect the acting Nazim through balloting. Later, PML-Q nominee Haji Shafi was elected tehsil Nazim when 45 naibs raised their hands in his favour.

Meanwhile, about five vehicles were damaged when a big tree fell on them on the premises of the tehsil council.

MURDER: A man murdered his wife over domestic dispute in Peru Shah village of Karrianwala on Friday.

Reportedly, Abbas opened fire on Anwar Sultana and fled. She died on the spot. Karrianwala police have registered a case.
