KARACHI, June 26: Pakistan on Thursday announced a five-member squad including British-born Ibraheem Hussain for the world boxing championship to be hosted by Bangkok from July 4 to 12.
The pugilists who will represent the country at the contest are light-flyweight Noman Karim, flyweight Abid Jan, light-welterweight Asghar Ali Shah, middleweight Ahmad Ali Khan and light-heavyweight Ibraheem.
Ibraheem, who is based in England, will fly directly to Bangkok to join the squad selected by coach Reinaldo Alvarez for the tournament in which Pakistan is taking part for the first time.
Country’s star boxer Meherullah, who burst into limelight after scooping-up the gold at Busan Asian Games last year, will miss the event after injuring his hand in an accident.
The boxers are preparing for the competition under the supervision of Zaigham Maseel and Adam Kuchchi here at National Sports Training and Coaching Centre.
President Sindh Amateur Boxing Association Shakeel Durrani will accompany the squad as manager, while Col Arif Malik (retd) will be referee judge.
