SUKKUR, June 26: About 200 people blocked the National Highway to protest against local Hesco officials for disconnecting power supply to more than 200 houses in Ali Wahan, Rohri taluka, here on Thursday.

The blockade ended after police officials assured the protesters that their power connections would be restored.

Meanwhile, Hesco officials said they had cut power connections of the consumers for power theft.

However, the consumers said power meters were installed outside their homes and there was no question of stealing electricity. They said Hesco officials were involved in power theft and to cover the losses they sent detection bills to consumers.

KILLED: A landlord of Mirpur Mathelo was shot dead by five robbers here on Tuesday night.

The armed men barged into the house of Ghulam Mohammad for robbery. They opened fire on the landlord who woke up and challenged them. The landlord died on the spot.

shot dead: A man was shot dead in a dispute over land in the jurisdiction of the Mehmood Channa police station on Wednesday night.

The man killed was identified as Pir Bux Bughio. The police have taken the body to the Sagyoon Hospital for postmortem.

RELEASED: Three persons, who were kidnapped in Punjab six months back, were released by the Jacobabad police after an encounter with outlaws.

Those released are Ghulam Rasool Chandio, Dost Ali Chandio and Yaseen Soomro.

REGULARIZED: The Fauji Fertilizers Company, Mirpur Mathelo, regularized 175 probationary employees on Thursday.

This was announced by the FFC management in a function arranged by the CBA union of the company.

An amount of Rs10m was also allocated to establish a hospital at the FFC, Mirpur Mathelo.
