OKARA, June 26: Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested here a Lahore-based trader’s kidnappers, who had killed him despite receiving Rs1.5 million ransom.
Police have also retrieved the trader’s car and the ransom amount from the suspect.
Reports said two armed men kidnapped Wasif Butt, a resident of Muslim Town, Lahore, kept his car (IDL-2576) and detained him somewhere in Lahore. They contacted his family and asked it to bring Rs1.5 million ransom at Mustafaabad, Okara.
The family handed over the amount to the kidnappers, but the trader did not reach home.
On receiving information, the district police raided several localities and arrested one of the suspects at Mustafaabad near Hujra Shah Muqeem.
During interrogation, the arrested man confessed that he took Rs1.5 million and had killed the trader at Johar Town, Lahore.
KILLED: Two bus passengers were stabbed to death while seven others hurt by pickpockets in a bid to rescue one of their colleague’s at Gogra bus stop on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, a bus was going towards Gogra when four pickpockets started collecting cash hardly eight kilometres short of the destination. A passenger, Manzoor Ahmad, caught one of the pickpockets while his three accomplices stabbed him and other passengers to get the overpowered man released.
Manzoor and Abid Ali died instantly while seven others, including Fayyaz Ahmad, Muhammad Husain, Haroon Khan, Lal, Mohabat and deceased Manzoor’s brother Sadi Ahmad, were grievously injured. They were hospitalized.
