COLOMBO, June 26: Janatha Vimukthi Peruma, the Marxist political party, on Wednesday launched a protest campaign against the Lankan government’s “lack of efforts to prevent the killings of anti- LTTE persons and intelligence officers”.

However, Defence Minister Tilak Marapana, in a press conference, accused the media of not cooperating with the government in its “effort to bring about law and order”.

He said the government would enhance security for intelligence officers working for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

He further said that resumption of peace talks was likely with the government agreeing to bring about an interim administration in the Northeast by vesting administrative powers with the LTTE.
