LAHORE, June 25: Four lawyers and two policemen were injured in a clash among them at the sessions courts on Wednesday.

Advocate Malik Khalid and his brother Ashraf were produced before the sessions court for attacking a police party which raided their house for their alleged involvement in drug business.

Their counsel Irshad Baig said no case had been registered against them, instead they were being kept in illegal detention by the police.

The counsel said he had filed an appeal before the sessions court against the illegal confinement and the court had directed the police to produce the suspects before it.

Mr Irshad said the court granted bail to both the suspects and the clash started when the police refused to set them free.

A spokesman said police refused to release the accused because they had not received the court orders in this regard.

On refusal, Mr Irshad and his colleagues exchanged hot words with the policemen. More lawyers came to the rescue of their fellow and the policemen and the lawyers beat up and tore clothes of one another. The police then opened fire which resulted in injuries to four lawyers.

The two suspects were released when the lawyers dispersed.

Lawyers filed a complaint with Islampura police against the policemen who clashed with them on the court premises. However, nine policemen were booked by Liaquatabad police.

Lahore High Court Bar Association President Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari condemned the incident and demanded that the government should take strict action against the culprits.
