DOMAILI (Jehlum), June 22: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali expressed on Sunday the hope that the government would defeat the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the National Assembly.
“We would not let the opposition hold parliament hostage,” he said while talking to reporters in Domaili, District Jehlum.
The prime minister came here to condole with Col. (Retd) Muhammad Iftikhar Kiani, a family friend, over the death of his brother Col Asghar Kiani.
He said: “The government would Inshallah defend the Speaker and their (Oppostion’s) motion would be defeated.
He said the Opposition must keep into consideration the situation the country was passing through and it should realise its responsibility.
“The opposition thinks it can hold parliament hostage but we will not allow them to do so.”
He said it was the democratic duty of the opposition to do healthy opposition but it should also let parliament function.
The prime minister, on the occasion, announced a grant of Rs10 million for the construction of two bridges on Nullah Ghan and Nullah Bunha, located on the Domaili road.
He also announced Rs500,000 for the construction of a girls college in the area.
The prime minister said the provincial government would also construct a dam in the area.
He said his government was giving special attention to the development of far-flung and backward areas to bring them on a par with the developed ones.
He said the government had increased the development budget for the next fiscal year to Rs160 billion which was 30 per cent higher than the last year’s Public Sector Development Programme of Rs120 billion.
Special allocation has been made for the promotion of backward areas, the prime minister said, adding the government was focusing on projects that would ensure basic facilities such as education and health, at the doorstep of the common man.
He said the government was also giving a top priority to the construction of infrastructure, specially the road network, to boost economic activities in the country.—APP
