India tests new SAM

BHUBANESWAR (India) June 22: India on Sunday tested its homegrown short-range surface-to-air Trishul missile from the eastern coastal state of Orissa, officials said.

The Trishul missile was test-fired “successfully” at 2:00 pm, said an official at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur.

The missile — one of the five developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation since 1983 — is powered by solid fuel and can deliver a 15-kilogramme warhead up to nine kilometres away, it said.—AFP
