ISLAMABAD, June 22: President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Syed Dilawar Abbas has appointed Brig Khalid Sajjad Khokhar as a member of the national selection committee.
Khokhar, who is a senior vice president of the federation, is also the chairman of the PTF’s disciplinary committee. His appointment as a selector means that the selection committee will now have eight members.
Dilawar told Dawn on Sunday that the decision of appointing Khokhar had to be taken in view of chairman Saeed Hai not being able to attend recent selectorial meetings for health reasons.
The members of the selection committee besides Hai and Khokhar are Nasir Munir, Rasheed Malik, Samad Khan, Jameel Ahmed, Omer Rashid and PTF secretary Rashid Khan.
Meanwhile, the PTF has announced dates for a summer training camp for under-16 players in Islamabad and appointed former Davis Cup players Mushaf Zia and Shah Mehmood as coaches.
Dilawar had said last week that the PTF planned to hold the camp in which selected players from the provinces and Islamabad would take part.
The camp will have three players each from Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad, another two from NWFP and one player from Balochistan.
Akhtar Mohiuddin meanwhile has been named as the physical trainer at the camp which will run from July 1 to 28 at the PTF Complex.
