Five LJ men ‘arrested’

MULTAN, June 22: Multan police have reportedly arrested a number of activists of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.

Multan range DIG Chaudhry Iftikhar will address a press conference on Monday.

Although the police authorities refused to give details of what kind of achievement would be announced in the press conference, a source in the department told Dawn that it was about the arrest of some LJ men.

The source said the police had arrested five people of the banned organization. Two of them were identified as Shahabuddin of Multan and Abdul Majeed of Layyah. Shahab had a headmoney of Rs1.5 million and Bilal of Rs1 million.

The source said both the accused had been wanted in a number of terrorist acts especially those occurred in south Punjab. The identity of the remaining three accused could not be ascertained, and the source said they might be some local people who had provided shelter to the arrested LJ hitmen. — Correspondent
