KOHAT, June 22: The Pakistan-Japan friendship tunnel constructed with a cost of Rs6 billion was opened for all types of traffic after a successful trial period of seven days on Sunday morning.
The assistant director of National Highway Authority, Engineer Naseem Khattak briefing the newsmen on Sunday told that the decision to open the tunnel for general traffic had been made after a two week successful trial during which only heavy vehicles were allowed to pass through it.
He said that during this trial period the tunnel had proved to withstand all types of load. He informed that earlier the trial period was three weeks but after the inspection by the Japanese engineers and NHA staff on Friday last they decided to open it.
