KARACHI, June 18: Junior team penalty corner striker Ikhlaq Ahmed suffered a hard blow on the back of the right hand during the ongoing training camp of Pakistan junior team for the upcoming tour of Europe.
Camp Commandant and junior team manager Col (Retd) Abdul Rauf said Wednesday that Ikhlaq got the blow during a penalty corner and his hand was swollen after ball was hit on the back of his hand.
Well build Ikhlaq was taken for initial check-up and result of an X-Ray is awaited before it will be determined what is the extent of his injury.
In the meantime Pakistan junior team management including has shortlisted the boys from 62 to 43.
These boys will continue their training at Pakistan Steel Township and two-day trials to pick 20-member Pakistan junior squad for international events in Spain and in Poland will start from June 26.
Chief of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) General Muhammad Aziz Khan will announced the team on June 27 after he himself witnessed the trials with member of the selection committee headed by Akhtar Rasool.
Besides 20 players eight standbys will be picked to continue their training till their departure for Spain on July 21.
Following 43 boys have be retained for the second phase of the camp and trials.
