KHAIRPUR, June 18: A large number of farmers of the Mojai Shakh, fed by the Mirwah Canal, held a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against the SDO of irrigation, Thari Mirwah east.

The protesters, a majority of whom had come from different villages on tractors, also observed a token hunger strike outside the office of the district Nazim.

Later, the protesters reached the local press club and staged a sit-in outside it.

Talking to journalists, the protesters alleged that the SDO of irrigation had not provided water to four watercourses at the head of the Mojai Shakh but used the water for his land and those of some influential persons of the area.

The protesters said that they were unable to cultivate seasonal crops on more than 1,000 acres of land while the standing crops on hundreds of acres of land had been destroyed due to the water shortage.

MARCH: Residents of the Bindi Motayo village staged a 4-km long march from their village to Sobhodero on Wednesday in protest against the area Hesco officials.

The villagers alleged that the Hesco officials were demanding bribe for replacing a transformer which had gone out of order about a month ago.

They demanded that the Hesco authorities should look into the matter and provide immediate relief to the people.
