QUETTA, June 18: The Balochistan High Court Chief Justice, Raja Fayyaz Ahmed, taking a suo motu notice, ordered the staff concerned to admit for hearing an appeal of a widow seeking justice from the court on the death of her husband as a result of police torture.

Widow of Jan Muhammad Rind, in her application, stated that CIA Deputy Superintendent of Police Nasir Kazmi and Inspector Anwar Shahwani arrested her husband on May 28 and later demanded Rs300,000 for his release but Jan Muhammad died of the head injury he received during the police torture, on June 3.

She said though the SSP of Quetta had raided the police station and got her husband freed and also suspended the inspector, no action was taken against Mr Kazmi.

She said later her husband died of the head injury he received during detention.

The chief justice ordered placement of the application before the court for Thursday.
