KARACHI, June 18: The City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution against the Greater Thal Canal, urging the federal government to review the project due to strong reservations expressed by the masses in Sindh.

The resolution, presented by many members, including Saeed Ghani, Qazi Saddrudin, Ghulam Abbas Talpur and Abdur Razzaq Siddique, said a similar type of resolution was approved by the council on March 6, 2002, calling upon the authorities to reconsider the project because of the concern expressed by political groups and people from all walks of life.

The resolution mentioned that a resolution against the Thal canal had already been approved unanimously in the Sindh Assembly, besides the project had been under question at various forums in the province. The federal government should review the project, the members said in their speeches deplored the project .—PPI
